GARDEN BEDS / BORDERS / MATERIAL CHOICES

Garden Beds & Landscape Edging in St. Albert & Edmonton.

Create a new garden bed, reshape an existing border or separate rock, mulch and lawn with an edge that suits the property. We plan the bed layout, preparation and finish together, from Royal Diamond black plastic to aluminum, timber, pavers and concrete curbing.

LANDSCAPING / JPPM

Define the bed.
Finish the landscape.

A garden bed is more than the space around a few plants. Its shape affects mowing, access, drainage and how the rest of the yard feels. We discuss what you want to plant or display, the materials you prefer and how much ongoing care you want. New beds and bed renovations can include agreed removal, soil preparation, planting, rock or mulch and a coordinated border. You can also request edging on its own where the existing bed already works.

THE WORK / CLEAR INCLUSIONS

Garden Beds & Landscape Edging.

01 / NEW GARDEN BEDS

New garden beds

Turn an agreed area of lawn or unfinished ground into a planting bed. We review bed depth, shape, access and the relationship to paths, foundations and the lawn before preparation starts.

02 / BED RENOVATIONS

Bed renovations

Rework a tired border, replace deteriorated edging or change the finish. Tell us which plants and features to keep so selective removal and protection can be planned.

03 / EDGING & BORDERS

Edging & borders

Choose a discreet divider or a more visible landscape feature. The edge should suit the materials on each side and the way the bed will be maintained, rather than being selected by colour alone.

SEVEN BORDER OPTIONS

Choose the edge that belongs in your yard.

Compare the appearance and purpose first. We confirm the selected profile, size, finish and installation details in your proposal.

Garden-bed edging and border options
BorderThe look & useWhat to consider
Royal Diamond black plasticA rounded black-poly profile for a defined lawn-to-bed border and flowing bed shapes.A familiar, visible edge; the bed line and installation depth need planning.
Black aluminumA slim dark border that gives planting beds and material transitions a crisp outline.Useful when you want the divider to recede against darker soil, mulch or rock.
Mill-finish aluminumNatural silver aluminum for a clean, more visible metal detail along the bed.Compare the exposed finish with nearby paving, edging and other metal features.
No-dig edgingA low divider option for separating decorative rock, mulch or different landscape materials.Profile, anchoring and material depth must suit the site; not a retaining wall.
Wood borders: 4×4, 4×6 & other sizesA more substantial timber edge that can suit straight beds and a warmer landscape finish.Discuss timber size, joints, support and contact with soil; wood needs ongoing condition checks.
Paver bordersA defined band that can coordinate a garden edge with patios or pathways.Pattern, width, curves and base preparation shape the look and the installation work.
Concrete curbingA formed border with profile, finish and colour choices coordinated with the landscape.Explore our dedicated curbing page to compare styles and plan the complete run.

A PROPERTY-SPECIFIC APPROACH

Plan the details before the work begins.

01

Start with the bed, not just the border.

We consider mature plant space, access for maintenance, where leaves collect and how the mower will move around the edge. Gentle curves can suit a lawn, while straighter lines may connect better to a deck or walkway. We also review the existing ground and drainage so the new bed joins the property deliberately. The proposed layout is settled before excavation or material removal.

02

Separate rock, mulch and lawn.

Different landscape materials need a deliberate transition. A divider between decorative rock and bark mulch can help keep the finishes distinct; a lawn edge has the additional job of defining where regular trimming and mowing will take place. We discuss the expected material depths, the visible height of the border and the maintenance access. Edging helps define a boundary, but it does not eliminate weeds or ongoing care.

03

Coordinate planting and the final finish.

The border, soil, plants and surface covering should be planned as one assembly. We can quote garden-bed preparation alongside planting or a rock and mulch installation, with any material removal and disposal recorded. Where a taller border would need to retain a significant change in grade, we assess that separately from ordinary garden edging. After installation, regular weeding and garden care can be arranged as a separate service.

PRICING / THE COMPLETE SCOPE

What shapes your quote.

Garden-bed pricing depends on the bed area, border length, removal, soil preparation, plant selection, material volumes and site access. Curves, corners, joins, existing roots and disposal affect the installation work. We compare the complete preparation and border scope, then identify the proposed material and finish in your quote. Final pricing is property-specific; changes to materials or approved work can change the total, and applicable GST is stated.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

Useful questions, answered.

Can you install just the edging?

Yes. We can assess a border replacement or material divider without rebuilding the entire bed. Existing levels and materials determine what preparation is needed.

Which edging is best for my yard?

It depends on the look, the materials being separated, curves, height and upkeep. We compare the suitable options on site rather than treating one material as the right answer everywhere.

Can no-dig edging separate two types of decorative material?

It can suit a low material divider where the selected profile and site conditions are appropriate. We review anchoring, material depth and the existing surface before recommending it.

Do you also look after the garden afterwards?

Yes. Garden weeding, deadheading and seasonal care are separate services. Visit the garden-maintenance page for current booking and pricing guidance.
