When a monthly plan earns its place
Monthly residential snow clearing makes sense when the driveway, front walk and city sidewalk need regular attention and you do not want to arrange each visit separately. JPPM assigns accepted monthly properties to organized routes. A written quote confirms the driveway, adjoining sidewalk and front walkway, unless it expressly excludes an area, along with corner frontage and customer-requested extras. The plan covers the season under agreed terms. It gives you a service standard and a record of visits, while route order still depends on snowfall, access, traffic and operational conditions.
What the timing really means
For JPPM residential routes, accumulation beginning before 10 AM generally receives same-day service. If it begins after 10 AM, service generally follows the next day. Clearing on a service day normally occurs between 6 AM and 10 PM; customers do not choose route priority. The overall commitment and exceptional conditions are set out in the approved terms. If a specific early arrival matters, ask whether before-8 AM service is available with at least 48 hours’ notice at $20 per visit. This is a separate option, not the standard route promise.
When one-time clearing makes sense
A one-time service may be enough after an unusual storm, during a holiday absence or when you need help with a particular accumulation. JPPM reviews the property, current snow conditions, clearing areas and crew capacity before accepting a request. The price and arrival window are quoted for that job. A one-time visit does not reserve a standing place on future routes. If another storm arrives, you need to request service again and availability may differ, especially when monthly customers already occupy the routes.
Compare the actual scope
Do not compare options by driveway price alone. Ask whether front steps and the adjoining city sidewalk are included, whether a corner lot adds a second frontage, where snow can be placed, and whether rear paths or bin access are requested extras. Discuss an exposed aggregate surface, slope, limited snow storage or a known ice trouble spot. Ice melt is an optional service with its own pricing; snow clearing alone cannot guarantee pavement will remain free of ice after a freeze-thaw cycle.
Make the choice for the whole season
A monthly agreement is intended for dependable ongoing care through changing snowfall, including documented visits during active storms. One-time service is a useful occasional option when capacity allows. If you travel, have a long frontage or simply want the same areas addressed after qualifying snowfall, the monthly plan is usually the clearer arrangement. If you handle most snow yourself and need occasional relief, ask for a one-time quote. Either way, review the approved scope and terms before relying on a service commitment.
